Memorial Scholarships

AFP Legacy offers scholarships named in honour of those who have fallen. These scholarships are awarded to AFP employees annually and are announced at the AFP Legacy Charity Ball.

Adam Dunning Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honours Protective Service Officer Adam Dunning who died in the line of duty while serving in the Solomon Islands in 2004. The scholarship provides financial assistance to further the successful applicant’s knowledge in the protective security context. It is valued at $3,000 ($1,500 contributed from AFP Legacy and $1,500 contributed from AFP Protection).

Mark Scott Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honours Federal Agent Mark Scott who died in the line of duty while serving in Indonesia in 2007. Mark served in Queensland, ACT, Myanmar and Jakarta and he had a particular fondness for his time within a community policing environment. As such, this scholarship provides financial assistance to further the successful applicant’s knowledge of policing, particularly focusing on matters topical to community policing. It is valued at $3,000.

Brice Steele Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honours Commander Brice Steele who died in the line of duty while serving in Indonesia in 2007. Brice served across a range of AFP functions and at the time of his death he was a Commander holding the position of Manager Indonesia. Brice had a particular fondness for his time in the International Network and was a skilled linguist. As such, this scholarship provides financial assistance to further the successful applicant’s knowledge in an area of policing that is relevant to an international context or language related activity. It is valued at $3,000.

Robert Shepherd Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honour Detective Superintendent Robert Shepherd who died in the line of duty while serving in Colombia in 1993. Robert served across a range of AFP functions and offices and at the time of his death was the Senior Liaison Officer in Buenos Aires Argentina. Robert was a person who liked to remain in the background and ensure that the frontline were supported. As such, this scholarship provides financial assistance to further the successful applicant’s knowledge in area of innovation or enrichment with a particular focus on supporting staff and the frontline.
